Bio

Jade Symmonds is a young (26) creator from the eastern united states. They have a passion for poor creative writing, messy programming, even messier art, and spending more time optimizing their code than making something that functions. They do their best to bring an air of levity to everything they're involved with (such as this portfolio). They hold a personal and likely unfair disdain for tech enthusiasts who don't understand the technology, capitalist-led web 3.0, the culture surrounding cryptocurrency and the blockchain, and generative AI. In particular, the people who use generative AI to avoid paying the real human beings who make a living from their art.

Their hobbies are fairly sparse, but include staples such as:

Video Games:

Playing indie games! See my list!
Playing games from my childhood (N64-PS2)
Modding! I've modded Rimworld and Terraria
Desgin! I love assessing what makes a game fun to play
Playing some MMOs (primarily OSRS (don't ask for my username))

Writing:

Personal microfiction (2000-5000 words, usually)
TTRPG Modules (formerly D&D, I've switched to GURPS)
Detailed character backgrounds, stories, motivations, etc. (also for modules)

Programming

Making Personal Tools (npc generators, loot generators, more TTRPG tools!)
Making games (usually short, usually simple, text-based because art is hard)
Bug fixing (they're ~~pretty good~~ okay at identifying flawed code!)

Digital art (mostly pixel art for the aforementioned modding)
Traditional art (usually landscapes or other visuals they can't get out of their head)

And while it may be gauche, the below are their personal beliefs:

Basic human rights, including:

The human right to shelter
The human right to care
The human right to privacy
The human right to food and water

Capitalism:

Capitalism incentivizes structures of cruelty
Capitalism only allows innovation when it doesn't harm the bottom line
Capitalism WILL stifle innovation that benefits humanity if it does not make money
Capitalism encourages strife among the proletariat to obfuscate the harm it causes
Ergo, I find it very difficult to cooperate with people who are not willing to acknowledge the faults inherent in Capitalist societies

Online interactions:

Do not feed the trolls.
Do not succumb to ragebait.
Do not engage with people asking questions in bad faith.
Publicly dunking on someone's terrible ideology is still spreading their ideology. Block them. Do not engage.
Deplatform people who advocate for tangible harm to people and communities who have not proben dangerous.
A person's consumption of fiction does not imply an endorsement of the fictional acts, and troublesome fiction can have negative effects on reality. These facts are not mutually exclusive.
Everything in the world is more nuanced than a 280 character tweet can convey.

Jade also suffers from a very short attention span. They don't particularly enjoy longform TV shows (GOT, TWD, Succession, etc) and have a hard time sitting through movies. As a result, their media consumption has been stunted for years. Please, feel free to recommend any shows you like! The worst thing that could happen is that they forget to watch it!

They also vacillate between being upbeat and talkative to quiet and subdued (but still happy), and they can sometimes talk over people without realizing it. Let them know if they're cutting you off, and they'll apologize and let you take the floor. The same applies if they say something upsetting or off-beat, they don't want to upset people, and they're happy to apologize and attempt to learn from their mistakes.
